Six years gone: Shina Peller, political allies honour late Gov Ajimobi in Ibadan

In a solemn demonstration of solidarity and enduring respect, the Ayedero of Yorubaland, Hon. Shina Peller, alongside other prominent political figures, on Thursday paid a visit to the resting place of the late former Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, in Ibadan.

The visit coincided with the sixth anniversary of the passing of the revered statesman, who died in 2020.

It served as a moment of deep reflection on the political evolution and structural development of Oyo State under Ajimobi’s two-term administration.

Other notable political personalities who visited the former governor’s resting place are the former Oyo State lawmaker, Hon. Seyi Adisa; Hon. Kayode Lanihun; and Hon. Olugbemi, who all prayed for the continuous peaceful repose of his soul.

Peller, alongside others, also paid homage to the former First Lady, Chief ( Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to standing by the family the late leader left behind.

In a post shared on his Instagram page shortly after the visit, Hon. Peller emphasised that the legacy left behind by Senator Ajimobi remains foundational for contemporary leadership across the South-West region.

“Today marks the 6th anniversary of the passing of our revered leader and former Executive Governor of Oyo State, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi,” Peller stated. “To honor his enduring legacy, I paid a visit to his resting place to offer prayers for his peaceful repose and to extend my continued warmth and comfort to our dear mother, Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi.”

Peller stressed that true leadership and regional progress require collective unity, explaining that the presence of other key political actors during the memorial was a deliberate signal of shared purpose.

“The journey of leadership and legacy is one best walked in unity,” Peller added, noting that Ajimobi’s impact on the state continues to act as a “guiding light” for successive generations of leaders.

Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who made history as the first governor to serve two consecutive terms in Oyo State, passed away on June 25, 2020.

Hon. Peller, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM)’s senatorial candidate for Oyo North in the 2027 general elections, is a close ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, the 2027 APM presidential candidate.

Peller’s unwavering dedication to youth empowerment has remained commendable to many. Through the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), Peller has trained thousands of Nigerian youth across the country on leadership, governance, political organising and mobilisation, active citizenship, strategic communication, and others.

Also, Peller’s recent decision to celebrate his 50th birthday with the empowerment of 50 deserving entrepreneurs and individuals with a one million naira grant each was lauded by many.
