Sisters clash at Abuja airport after missing flight, one lands in hospital

Drama unfolded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday when two sisters engaged in a violent fight after missing their United Airlines flight.

According to eyewitnesses, the siblings arrived at the airport late, only to find the boarding gate already closed. Anger flared as one blamed the other for the delay, leading to a verbal exchange that quickly escalated into a physical brawl.

Passengers and airport staff watched in shock as the women threw punches and hurled insults, scattering luggage and belongings across the terminal before security personnel intervened.

One sister faints amid chaos

In the midst of the scuffle, one of the sisters reportedly fainted, prompting panic among onlookers and airport officials.

Security officers from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rushed to the scene and moved the women to the interrogation office, but the fight reignited even there.

An ambulance was called to transport the unconscious sister to the FAAN clinic, though her sibling initially rejected medical assistance, claiming the issue was “spiritual” rather than physical.

Police step in as violence continues

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He revealed that the sisters, aged 23 and 31, were later handed over to the police after continuing their fight even at the clinic.

The elder sister fainted but resumed fighting her sibling after regaining consciousness,” Achimugu stated.

He added that the siblings are currently in police custody, while the fainted sister continues to receive medical attention.
