Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as, Simi, has made history with her hit track “Duduke”, which has officially been certified Gold in New Zealand for selling 15,000 units.
This marks her first international accolade, proving that Nigerian Afro-pop can resonate far beyond the country’s borders.

Originally released in 2020, “Duduke” captured hearts with its tender sounds and visuals highlighting Simi’s pregnancy, she also launched a challenge inviting fans to create their own interpretations of the song.
The song’s heartfelt melody and personal narrative struck a chord globally, leading to its commercial success in New Zealand.
Beyond the music, “Duduke” influenced pop culture: fans affectionately nicknamed Simi’s daughter, Adejare, after the song. Simi, however, has gently reminded fans to use her daughter’s real name.
The Gold certification highlights Simi’s growing global appeal and sets the stage for potential international collaborations, sync deals, and expanded streaming presence.
Simi’s Gold certification in New Zealand is more than an award — it’s proof that homegrown Nigerian music can cross oceans and cultural barriers.
