Public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has strongly criticised former United States President Donald Trump over his recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night, Shehu described Trump as a warmonger and accused the U.S. of hypocrisy regarding religion, morality, human rights, and democracy.
‘America Is the Biggest Pretender’ – Shehu
Shehu said Trump’s claim of defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria was nothing but faith pretence and hypocrisy.
“There is no better pretender about religion, morality, equality, human rights, justice and democracy than America, and now along with its blood-thirsty Hollywood actor, Trump,” he wrote.
He argued that the U.S. has failed to manage its own internal crises but continues to interfere in the affairs of other nations.
“With a series of terror attacks and daily killings of its citizens, America is unable to alert its own people but has the effrontery to create a false sense of concern for others,” he added.
‘America Promotes Global Instability’
Shehu accused the U.S. of fuelling instability across the world, claiming that since 1945, America has killed millions of Christians through direct wars or funded proxy conflicts.
He alleged that the U.S. exports a different form of democracy to Africa while pretending to care about human rights, yet supports monarchies in oil-rich regions because of profit from crude oil and arms sales.
According to Shehu, America provides safe havens for stolen funds from weaker nations but continues to blame them for underdevelopment.
‘Trump’s Move May Trigger Religious Crisis’
The activist warned that Trump’s so-called defence of Christians could ignite religious tension in Nigeria.
“In the process of killing Islamic terrorists in Nigeria, American drones and war planes will end up targeting Islamic clerics, Muslim-dominated settlements, mosques, and madrasas,” he said.
He further claimed that the U.S. goal was to destabilise Nigeria, install puppet leaders, and exploit the country’s natural resources.
“The whole aim of America’s ‘new love for Christians’ is to create war in Nigeria, destroy it as a potential regional power, install stooges, rule by proxy, and extract endless raw materials for their satisfaction,” Shehu stated.
‘America Acts Like the Devil’
Shehu compared America’s behaviour to its involvement in crisis-hit countries such as Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iran.
“When one recalls these countries, one cannot stop seeing America as the Devil Incarnate,” he wrote.
He also shared a picture of Trump in court, alleging that he was being tried for inciting violence and undermining democracy in the U.S., ending his post with the words: “The devil is a liar.”
