Selena Gomez and her legal team have set out on a mission to restore her strained reputation.
The singer found herself in a bit of legal drama earlier this week when she, alongside her mother and former business partner, were dragged to court with fraud allegations, and now she is ready to speak up.
Selena Gomez is not a stranger to business lawsuits, as she was sued 13 years ago for breach of contract by a perfume company after she reportedly failed to keep up appearances for a collection as stipulated in her contract.
The actress’ litigator, Matthew S. Rosengart, revealed that the next item on the agenda of the team is to tackle the unfounded allegations against her.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” the lawyer added.
He stated that they will vigorously defend these false allegations and have proceeded to file a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against Gomez.
While Gomez’s mother and co-founder of the company, Mandy Teefey, is reportedly yet to speak on the issue, Daniella Pierson, who also served as co-CEO alongside the duo, has categorically denied allegations of fraud, per PEOPLE.
Inside The Fraud Allegations Against The ‘Lose You To Love Me’ Singer And Her Mother
5As reported by The Blast, Gomez and Teefey were identified as the subject of a securities fraud lawsuit filed by investment groups Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC against Wondermind Global.
According to the plaintiff, Gomez and her mother had obtained $1 million in capital through a false representation of Wondermind’s leadership, operational infrastructure, and growth capacity, despite knowing the platform had no future.
The lawsuit accused Gomez of capitalizing on her popularity, media appearances, and promotional interviews to give off an illusion of stability to investors.
However, the extent of decay in the startup’s operation was uncovered in 2025 by The Cut, which highlighted the poor managerial skills of Teefey alongside substance abuse in the workplace. The lawsuit emphasized that Gomez neglected her role in the company after the capital funding was secured.
The Business Lawsuit Is Not Selena Gomez’s First Rodeo
5Gomez previously battled a costly dispute over money, promotion, and control with a perfume company. As reported by Courthouse News, the actress was accused by Adrenalina Inc. of failing to hold up her end of their multimillion-dollar partnership.
According to the establishment, it had invested more than $2.2 million into developing and promoting a celebrity fragrance line for Gomez before her company, July Moon Production, moved to terminate their licensing agreement.
Adrenalina Inc. explained in the lawsuit that it committed significant money and workforce to getting the perfume off the ground, including online promotions, direct-mail campaigns and prominent placement across hundreds of Macy’s stores. The company claimed those efforts helped push Gomez’s fragrance into Macy’s top 20 during the spring and summer of 2012.
While the company insisted it attempted to capitalize on Gomez’s enormous fanbase by launching a contest that allowed fans to participate in the fragrance design process, they noted that Gomez failed to provide promotional support.
The Disney Alum Once Credited Her Solid Work Ethic To Her Mother
5Gomez and her mother have maintained a very close bond over the years due to the intriguing story surrounding her birth. As noted by PEOPLE, Teefey gave birth to Gomez when she was just 16 and divorced from her father when the singer was just 5; a phenomenon Gomez confessed she blamed her mom for.
Gomez later acknowledged that Teefey having her at such a young age was a huge responsibility because she watched her give up everything while working multiple jobs to give her a good life.
However, Teefey revealed she promised to raise Gomez differently, and when her daughter started working, she became her biggest supporter and guide. According to Gomez:
“Everything that I am has kind of become a little bit of what my mom has gone through. She had the ability to make me feel like I was still capable of doing anything I wanted.”
She noted that her mom taught her to value people, show up on time, and be professional. Gomez and her mother teamed up with Netflix to become executive producers of Netflix’s hit show “13 Reasons Why,” which was released in 2017.
According to Gomez, her mother had come home with the novel, and when she read the book, she found herself relating to the story.
Selena Gomez Reflected On The Benefits Of Therapy For Her Mental Health
5Gomez’s early exposure to fame and the fast life had a damning effect on her mental health, which prompted a visit to a psychiatric facility when she was just 24 years old.
As shared by WebMD, Gomez revealed in her Vogue interview in 2017 that she had suffered from anxiety and depression amid her “The Revival Tour” in 2016. She explained that the bouts of these conditions gave her a tough time on and off stage, and she had to cancel early to focus on her health.
Gomez went on to spend 90 days in the treatment center in Tennessee, where she went through individual therapy, group therapy, and even equine therapy. The actress endorsed that culture of people having more honest, raw, and real conversations about mental health and the benefits of therapy.
The singer also revealed to Vogue that another way to keep her mental health in check was to stay off social media because, along the way, the apps and platforms had become consuming to her.
Gomez recalled being very addicted to Instagram, so much so that she wakes up with it being first on her mind when she wakes and the last when she goes to bed.
Will Selena Gomez’s team succeed in throwing out the case?
