Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun on Monday, stated that all foreign nationals within the state must be properly documented in accordance with security protocols and immigration regulations.
Abiodun spoke in Iperu after a security meeting with heads of security agencies in the state.
According to the governor, the measure seeks to further strengthen the security architecture of the state just as he reaffirmed government’s commitment to protect the lives and property of its residents.
He directed that all illegal settlements be dismantled and taken over by the government to prevent its continued use for unlawful activities.
“As the industrial capital of Nigeria and the gateway state that connects the financial capital to the rest of the country, we have and must continue to be proactive in ensuring that we sustain our position as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria,” he said.
The governor added that landlords and individuals found to be accommodating miscreants or criminal elements would be decisively dealt with in line with the law.
He noted that a strategic meeting would be convened with the non-indigene communities to strengthen mutual understanding and enhance security cooperation.
He said that the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) around Ilara, a key border community in Yewa North, would be prioritised to tighten border security.
He warned traditional rulers to desist from allocating lands to strangers, noting that the government would hold them responsible for any misdeeds.
“The state government will enhance collaboration and cooperation among all security agencies, which will further strengthen and modernise the state’s security architecture,” he said.
Abiodun commended President Bola Tinubu for providing leadership and economy stability, despite different false narratives being promoted.
“We congratulate Mr President and the security agencies for the progress made in the rescue efforts of the kidnap victims in Niger and Kwara states.
“There can not be economic development in the atmosphere of insecurity,” he said. (NAN)(
