Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has rewarded the two overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) with N20 million each in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
Sanwo-Olu announced the cash gifts on Wednesday during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies held at the institution’s main campus in Ojo.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Department of Project Management, who emerged as the overall best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96, and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, who finished as the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session with a CGPA of 4.97.
Confirming the development, Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, disclosed in a post on X that the governor approved N20 million for each of the award-winning graduates.
He wrote, “Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu and Visitor of the Lagos State University (LASU) today announced a cash gift of 20 million Naira (20,000,000) EACH for the Best Graduating Student(s) of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Session(s).”
Adebanjo’s emergence as the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session was one of the highlights of the convocation. The Aerospace Engineering graduate recorded a CGPA of 4.97 to top his graduating class.
For the 2024/2025 session, Ayilara distinguished himself with a CGPA of 4.96, earning the position of overall best graduating student.
The combined convocation ceremonies, which celebrate graduates from the two academic sessions, are being held under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello.
