The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the allegation as false, misleading and fabricated.
In a statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally fit and fully committed to his duties, contrary to reports suggesting he was under pressure to step down.
The reaction followed an online report alleging the governor could resign over health concerns, with Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat expected to take over leadership of the state.
Akosile rejected the report in its entirety and accused the online platform of spreading misinformation, insisting no one had asked the governor to resign and describing the claim as fake news.
The statement also clarified that Sanwo-Olu recently received Deputy Governor Hamzat on a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for governor, adding that the meeting was cordial and routine.
