Former Big Brother Naija star Sammie Jacob, popularly known as Sammie, has opened up about the hidden struggles that come with fame, urging fans to take mental health seriously.
He noted that while social media often portrays celebrities as doing well, many silently battle depression and financial pressure.
“Everyone is fighting a personal battle even when they smile,” Sammie said, adding that peace of mind is far more valuable than public validation or online popularity.
‘I faced depression, broke days and Loneliness’
In an emotional Instagram video, the reality TV star revealed that he battled depression several times after the show.
According to him, he often cried alone in his Lekki apartment, even though he appeared fine online.
He said the pressure of maintaining a lifestyle after Big Brother, coupled with financial struggles, made life in Lagos overwhelming.
Sammie explained, “There were days I had no light, no cash. I would cry, then cook my noodles, wear a fine shirt and step out smiling. Nobody knew what I was going through.”
Life after BBNaija — The tough reality
The ex-housemate said his biggest challenge was adjusting to life after the reality show.
While fans assumed he was living large, he revealed he was far from financially stable and often questioned his next steps.
He said, “There was a time I checked my alerts, debit, debit, debit everywhere. Only one small credit alert. Yet, people thought I was balling.”
Sammie added that many ex-housemates face similar struggles, but pride or public expectation keeps them from speaking out.
He encouraged others to be honest about their mental health and seek help when needed.
