The Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis, District 9141, has announced that the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Olorogun Akpokona Omafuaire, Esq., has been selected to receive its 2026 Meritorious Service and Leadership Award.
The announcement was contained in a letter addressed to Omafuaire and signed by the club’s President-Elect, Rotarian Akpobome Rufus Ibebe, and Secretary, Rotarian Akpevwe Paul Aloba.
According to the letter, the award is scheduled to be presented during the investiture ceremony of Rotarian Akpobome Rufus Ibebe as President of the Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.
The club stated that the award was approved by its leadership and forms part of activities lined up for the investiture ceremony.
The letter informed the recipient of his selection and invited him to attend the event where the award would be formally presented.
Part of the letter stated that the selection was based on considerations that included leadership, professional accomplishments and contributions to society.
The investiture and award presentation ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis is one of the clubs under Rotary International District 9141. The organisation regularly holds annual investiture ceremonies to mark the commencement of a new Rotary year and recognise individuals and organisations considered by the club to have made contributions in various fields.
The club said preparations were ongoing for the event, which is expected to bring together Rotarians, professionals, public office holders, journalists and other invited guests from within and outside Delta State.
