Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara says he defected to APC to align state with Tinubu’s administration

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has clarified that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was aimed at bringing the state in line with President Bola Tinubu’s political vision and ensuring effective cooperation with the federal government.

The governor officially received his APC membership card on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, presented by Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha.

Fubara defects to APC to align Rivers State with presidential agenda

At the ceremony, Fubara described his defection as a “spiritual assignment,” stressing that Rivers State’s political course should mirror that of the presidency to maintain stability and support development initiatives.

We cannot move in a different direction while the President is following another path.”

According to him, his decision to join the APC reflects his commitment to a smooth working relationship with the federal government and to actively supporting the President’s re-election efforts in the state.

Governor pledges to strengthen party structures and support development projects

Fubara also pledged to bolster the APC’s organisational framework in Rivers State, ensure the party remains fully operational, and meet all of its local requirements.

He further highlighted that aligning with the APC would protect ongoing development programmes and create new opportunities for the state’s growth.

His move signifies a significant political shift in Rivers State, with potential implications for alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
