Cases of road accidents have been on the rise in many parts of the Republic of Kenya.
In the most recent incident, a married woman and her husband died in a tragic accident after attending the former senator’s burial in Embu.
The deceased were identified as Michael Mbugua Karaba, aged 52, and his wife Felister Mbugua, aged 48.
The couple was travelling back home to Murinduko after attending the funeral of former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba, who was their relative.
According to witnesses, the couple was riding on a motorcycle when a vehicle that was attempting to pass a lorry crashed into them while heading towards Difathas from Embu.
The accident was later discovered after the couple’s phone rang and their son picked the call, which helped people confirm that they were residents of Murinduko.
Relatives later arrived at the scene and verified their identities.
Mwaura stated that it was a double tragedy and explained that they had just laid Karaba to rest and now they were mourning two more family members, which he said was very painful.
Residents have expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents along the Mwea-Embu Highway and are urging motorists to be more careful and follow traffic rules to prevent more accidents.
