The Adamawa government on Monday announced plans to deploy a rehabilitation and resettlement committee on an infrastructure assessment visit to Numan council area for possible intervention.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri made the announcement when Hama Bachama, Homun Daniel Samaila Shaga, of the Bachama Kingdom, paid a thank-you visit to the governor in Yola.
Fintiri said the committee would work closely with the people of Numan and relevant stakeholders to identify areas requiring rehabilitation and resettlement, with a view to finding lasting solutions to challenges affecting the communities.
The governor assured the traditional ruler and the people of Numan of his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property while promoting peaceful coexistence among communities.
He, however, commended the Hama Bachama and other traditional rulers for their roles in maintaining peace, unity and stability in the state.
Fintiri, who described traditional institutions as important partners in the development of Adamawa, urged them to continue to support his administration’s efforts toward ensuring peace and sustainable development.
Earlier, the Kingdom’s paramount ruler expressed appreciation to the governor for his support and commitment to the development and well-being of the people of Numan and the Bachama Kingdom.
He appealed to the governor to intervene on the issues of Savannah Sugar Company and its unhealthy relationship with the people of Numan. He said such intervention would help create an enabling environment for development and improve the well-being of the host communities.
Shaga urged the governor to facilitate dialogue among relevant stakeholders, saying resolving the issues would propel peaceful coexistence, economic growth and sustainable development in Numan and the neighbouring communities.
He said that his subject would continue the state government’s developmental programmes, saying his administration’s intervention in the Savannah Sugar Company’s matter would strengthen development efforts and improve the relationship between the company and its host communities.
The Hama Bachama thanked Fintiri for receiving the delegation and for the various interventions of his administration, assuring him of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution in promoting peace and development across the state. (NAN) www.nannews.ng.com
