Public reactions have continued to pour in following remarks by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, after the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly detained a man accused of threatening former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi.
According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, the suspect had allegedly warned Obi against visiting Rivers State. The threat surfaced shortly after gunmen reportedly attacked the former governor and some leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.
Responding to the development, Tanko praised the DSS for taking swift action in arresting the individual. However, he stressed that apprehending someone over statements made online does not address the broader issue of the armed assault that had earlier occurred.
In a message shared on his social media page, Tanko made it clear that while the arrest was a step in the right direction, it should not be seen as a substitute for a thorough investigation into the shooting incident. He stated, “We welcome this action. However, let us be unequivocal, an arrest tied to online commentary does not resolve an armed attack.”
His statement quickly gained traction online, generating varied responses from social media users. Many individuals took to the comment section to express differing opinions on the arrest and the security concerns surrounding the incident. Screenshots of some of these reactions have since circulated across various platforms.
