Ralph Mupita Joins Dangote Fertiliser Board as Listing Plans Advance

Ralph Mupita has been appointed to the board of Dangote Fertiliser Ltd, strengthening the company’s leadership as it moves closer to a planned listing on the Nigerian Exchange.

The appointment was confirmed by Dangote Fertiliser’s management and comes at a time when the business is positioning itself for capital market entry as part of a broader strategy by Dangote Industries to unlock value across its core assets.

The fertiliser business is expected to be among the group’s next operating units to access public equity funding.

Mupita’s inclusion on the board is widely viewed as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing governance and market readiness ahead of the anticipated initial public offering.

As chief executive officer of MTN Group Ltd, he led the successful listing of MTN Nigeria in 2019, a transaction that marked one of the most significant capital market events in the country and substantially deepened local investor participation.

Dangote Fertiliser operates a large-scale urea production facility in Lagos with an annual capacity of about three million tonnes.

The company has outlined plans to expand capacity further and pursue regional growth, including new production investments outside Nigeria, as it targets a larger share of Africa’s fertiliser market.

Africa’s growing population and rising food demand continue to underpin long-term prospects for fertiliser producers, even as structural challenges such as financing gaps, logistics constraints, and farm-level productivity remain.

Industry analysts say access to capital will be critical for scaling production, improving distribution, and supporting downstream agricultural growth across the continent.

The planned listing is expected to support Dangote Fertiliser’s expansion ambitions while opening the business to institutional investors.

It also aligns with the group’s broader capital markets strategy, which includes preparations to eventually list other major operating assets.

Mupita’s appointment adds capital market experience and board-level oversight at a pivotal stage for Dangote Fertiliser, as the company transitions from a privately held operation into a potential publicly traded agribusiness with regional and global ambitions.
