Radda inaugurates Katsina State Council of Emirs

Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State has inaugurated the state’s Council of Emirs, appointing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir-Usman, as the Chairman.

During the inauguration in Katsina on Tuesday, Radda also announced the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar-Faruk, as Co-Chairman, and Sen. Ibrahim Idah, Wazirin Katsina as Secretary.

He said that Alhaji Sada Salisu-Ruma, the Danwairen Katsina, will serve as Assistant Secretary, with all King-makers across the emirates as members of the council.

The governor said that other members of the council are: traditional title holders, non-title holders across the emirates, and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari.

He also listed Alhaji Dahiru Barau-Mangal, Baba Buhari Walin Daura, Sheikh Yakubu Musa, Sheikh Naziru Kofar-Waru, and Abdul’aziz Abdul’aziz, as other members of the council.

Radda outlined the functions of the council to include advising the governor on matters related to Islamic/customary laws, cultural affairs and inter-communal relationships.

According to him, the council has the power to maintain public order, peace and security within the state upon request.

He added that “the council is also to assist traditional institutions, culture and community development, as well as the tax authority in collecting taxes.

“The council will assist in forest conservation, environmental protection and supervising periodic sanitation within communities.”

The secretary, who spoke on behalf of the newly inaugurated council, commended the governor for giving them the responsibility, pledging all the necessary support.

According to him, the council will do everything possible to protect the interest of the emirate councils, the state government and the citizens in general. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
