The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has disbursed N3.9bn in outstanding arrears to 91,146 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
The agency confirmed the payment in a statement issued on Friday by its Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, in Abuja. He said the disbursement followed the N32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Tinubu.
According to Ajayi, N1.9bn was paid to 59,865 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department, while 12,976 pensioners in the Civil Service Pension Department received N830m. Another N620m was released to 9,689 retirees in the Police Pension Department.
He added that N551m was paid to 8,616 pensioners in the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Prisons Pension Department.
PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to clearing all outstanding liabilities and improving pensioners’ welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
PTAD had earlier announced that the new pension increments for retirees under the DBS would take effect from the September 2025 payroll cycle. The increment includes a fixed N32,000 payment as well as percentage adjustments of 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent for eligible groups, covering an estimated 832,000 pensioners.
