The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.
The commission said the promotions followed a rigorous selection process that included written examinations and oral interviews held at its headquarters in Abuja. The exercise was conducted to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight former DIGs.
According to the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku, the promotion was based on merit, seniority, service records and performance during the assessment exercise.
The officers elevated to the rank of DIG are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Umar Shehu Nadada.
PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by maintaining professionalism, prioritising national security and working closely with the commission to advance policing in the country.
