Power Restoration Promised Ahead Of Christmas

Nigerians may see improved electricity supply during the Christmas period following progress on repairs by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC), authorities said on Wednesday.

Large parts of the country have experienced power outages in recent days due to a temporary drop in electricity generation linked to gas supply challenges.

In an update posted Wednesday night on X by the Nigeria National Grid, officials said restoration work was nearing completion and power supply would soon be stabilised nationwide.

“This restoration will enable gas-fired power plants to resume normal operations, leading to improved electricity supply across the country,” the statement said.

Electricity availability is often a key concern during the festive season. While past Yuletide periods have typically seen relatively stable power supply, they have also been marked by fuel shortages.

This year, however, authorities note a different trend, as market forces have driven down petrol prices, resulting in improved fuel availability across the country.
