Popular Nigerian Pastor’s Wife Kidnapped

Gunmen abduct Pastor’s wife and a church member in Agyaragu, Nasarawa State, leaving behind her three-month-old baby. Police begin investigation
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Patience Nasamu, wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu of Word of God Church, alongside a female church member in the Agyaragu community of Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when armed men stormed the cleric’s residence, forcibly taking the two women to an undisclosed location.

Pastor Nasamu, who recounted the ordeal to journalists in Lafia on Monday, said his wife — a nursing mother of a three-month-old baby — and a visiting congregant were whisked away while his infant child was left behind.

“I barely left my wife and our visitor with our newborn baby at home to pray for one of my members who was sick when she placed a call to me. All I could hear was her voice praying. She could not even tell me what was happening,” he narrated.

According to him, the kidnappers attempted to break into the apartment by smashing the doors and windows with hammers before firing gunshots into the air, forcing his wife to open the door.

He added that strange men on motorcycles were sighted in the community shortly before the attack at around 8:15pm.

Police operatives later visited the scene and assured residents that an investigation was ongoing. However, no contact has been established with the abductors.

A resident, speaking anonymously, decried the worsening insecurity in the area:

“We live every day in fear of being kidnapped. Agyaragu is now at the mercy of gunmen. We call on Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene urgently.”

As at the time of filing this report, the state police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, could not be reached for comment.
