Police recover GPMG, AK-47 in Plateau

The Police Command in Plateau has recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The Command spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Jos.

Alabo said Mobile Police officers, acting on credible intelligence, encountered suspected bandits in a bush around Kafi Abu on Friday.

He said the suspects fled into the surrounding forest after sighting the operatives, prompting a search of the area.

According to him, the officers recovered a GPMG with breech number T1102-20CH00007 and an AK-47 rifle bearing breech number 1968M117479.

Alabo said the recovery followed intensified efforts by the command to tackle criminal activities and restore security across affected communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, had deployed additional personnel to the area.

The deployment was aimed at sustaining the operation and apprehending the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police said investigation had begun to establish further details surrounding the recovered weapons and identify those responsible.

He urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activities within their communities to assist security agencies.

Faniyan assured residents that information supplied would support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property across Plateau.
