The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested and detained four male suspects, recovered stolen cellphones and suspected illicit substances in separate raid operations carried out within the state.
This is contained in a statement by the command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Wednesday in Enugu.
Ndukwe said that the command had sustained its proactive crime-fighting strategy, and recorded significant operational successes following coordinated raids on criminal hideouts within the state.
He said that on March 1, at about 8p.m., police operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch, raided a criminal hideout located along the Holy Ghost Rail Line.
“During the raid, two notorious and habitual theft suspects who specialise in snatching bags and other valuables from unsuspecting members of the public were apprehended.
“Four mobile phones (Honour, Vivo, Tecno, and Itel brands) and wraps of suspected cannabis sativa were recovered from them.
“The suspects have confessed to snatching the phones from unsuspecting passersby, particularly during evening hours,” he said.
The spokesman added that in a related development, on Feb. 28, at about 9a.m., operatives of the command attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, while on crime prevention patrol, stormed a criminal hideout at Eke-Obinagu, Emene.
“This resulted in the detention arrest and detention of two suspects, as well as the recovery of a large quantity of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.
“Investigations are ongoing to track their accomplices and recover more exhibits, after which the suspects will be arraigned in court,” he said.
He said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, had reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining proactive operations aimed at ridding the state of criminal elements and ensuring the safety of all residents.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and promptly provide useful information to the police, including reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
