The Police Command in Benue on Friday, presented N22.3 million in cheques to 16 families of personnel who died in active service in the state
Presenting the cheques to the next of kin of the deceased in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Ifeanyi Emenari, urged them to make judicious use of the funds.
Emenari explained that the funds were drawn from the police welfare scheme Group Life Assurance and Group Accident.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of finance and administration, Mr Mohammed Yakubu, the CP conveyed the command’s deepest condolences to the families.
According to him, though money cannot replace the lives of their loved ones, it will cushion the effect of death on their families within the first year of the loss.
He advised the beneficiaries to invest the monies into businesses that would help them become self-reliant as they wait for other benefits from the force.
“I take this opportunity to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by our brave police officers who gave their lives in service to our dear country.
“On behalf of the Benue state Police command, I express condolences to you and pray that Almighty God will grant you the fortitude to bear the loss.
“We recognise your loss and assure you that your loved ones’ service will not be forgotten.
“We pray for your comfort and strength during this difficult time. May God bless the families of our fallen heroes and the entire police community,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Happiness Sale thanked the force for its continuous support to its personnel even after death. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
