Police detain 2 suspects in A’Ibom, recover arms

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom on Thursday, said it has arrested two suspects over alleged illegal possession of firearms in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the State.

The command disclosed this  in a statement issued by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, in Uyo.

John said on Wednesday, operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence in continuation of investigations into a case of stealing, stormed the residence of a principal suspect at Nung Oku Ibiet 1 Village in Oruk Anam.

“A thorough and systematic search of the premises resulted in the recovery of the following exhibits; one double-barrel rifle, five single-barrel rifles, three live cartridges, 22 expended cartridges and one piece of carbide used for refilling spent cartridges.

“The quantity and nature of the recovered arms strongly indicate the activities of an organised criminal network with the potential to inflict significant harm and disrupt public peace and security,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the suspects were currently in police custody and that they would be charged to Court upon conclusion of ongoing investigations.

The police image maker reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance to violent crimes, illegal possession of arms, cultism, and all acts capable of undermining public safety in the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
