Police Assure Residents as Sokoto Monitors Planned Protest Online

Residents of Sokoto State have been urged to continue their normal activities without fear following concerns over a planned protest circulating on social media.

The state Police Command said it is monitoring the situation after becoming aware of the online posts and has taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, stated that the command maintains regular engagement with civil groups and organisers of peaceful demonstrations to ensure protests are conducted within legal boundaries.

He explained that groups intending to protest typically notify the police in advance and receive guidance to guarantee public safety and avoid unrest. According to him, adequate security measures have already been deployed to safeguard lives and property.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly while ensuring that any procession is carried out in accordance with the law.
