Police Arrests Five Suspects Over The Murder Of Suspected Rapist In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended five individuals in connection with the death of a 38-year-old man who had been accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

According to The Punch, the deceased, identified as Samuel Ofiri, was discovered lifeless by the roadside along Kakatar Road in Otuoke, within Ogbia Local Government Area. According to the State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, officers from the Kolo Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call on February 22, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., where they found the body. It was subsequently evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Otuoke.

The police confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to the incident: Stanley Inemugha (21), Ipagaro Memidin (21), Kingsley Taribo (25), Boye Easter (22), all from Otakeme Community, and Preye Timbiri (40) from Otuoke Community.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had been accused of rape, after which he was allegedly taken to a private residence and subjected to torture that resulted in his death. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue and are expected to be charged accordingly.

The Commissioner cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, condemning mob justice and urging members of the public to report suspected criminal activity to law enforcement authorities instead.See_More…
