According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Friday, March 27, 2026, an evangelist and self-acclaimed General Overseer, Favour Ezani, has been arrested by security operatives in Anambra State over allegations involving a 16-year-old girl.
The incident occurred in Nnewi, a commercial town in the state, where the suspect reportedly received the teenager in his residence for spiritual prayers and healing.
The case has drawn attention due to the circumstances surrounding how the victim was brought to the cleric and the nature of the allegations.
The victim, identified as Precious Okafor, was reportedly taken to the suspect’s residence located in the Amichi community within Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to available information, she was brought there by a relative who sought spiritual intervention for her.
The arrangement was said to be for deliverance and healing, which later became the basis of the unfolding incident that led to the arrest.
Security personnel attached to the Special Anti-Touting Squad, a state-backed security outfit, carried out the arrest following a report received from a member of the community.
The case was subsequently taken to the headquarters of the security outfit in Onitsha, where further details were made available.
The spokesperson of the unit, Karen James, confirmed that the report originated from a nearby community after concerns were raised about the condition of the teenager.
According to information provided during the briefing, the situation came to light after the relative who had taken the girl to the evangelist noticed that she was pregnant.
Upon further inquiry, the victim reportedly identified the suspect as being responsible.
This development prompted the report to the authorities, leading to swift action by the security outfit.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue into the matter.
She said, “He has slept with me countless times inside his church, farm, and residence before the rescue came. I don’t know my father but my mother is living in Port Harcourt. I am an indigene of Amichi and urgently need help.”
