The Police on Friday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Sunday Michael, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged church breaking and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge of church breaking and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Sept. 14 at Orisumibare in Ise-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and others at large broke and entered into the church, Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Ayo, Orisumibare, Ise-Ekiti.
Bamikole said that the defendant and others at large stole two single speakers, one double speaker, one mixer engine, two wireless engine, two wireless microphone and one ordinary microphone valued at N1.5 million, belonging to the church.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 325 and 302, of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Anoma said that the surety must be a civil servant not less than grade level 14.
She adjourned the case until Oct.27 for hearing. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
