The former Executive Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi (CON), has praised communication scholar and award-winning writer, Dr. Nze U. Nze, for his remarkable achievements in the education sector.
Mr. Obi gave the commendation during his visit to the Department of Nursing Sciences, Tansian University, Oba Campus, where he donated an additional Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000) to support the development of the department. He expressed joy that exceptional individuals like Dr. Nze—one of the beneficiaries of his ₦1,000,000 Postgraduate Scholarship Award for Anambra First Class graduates during his tenure as governor—have continued to excel in their fields of specialization.
Obi noted that the academic journey of the Awka South–born communication expert is both inspiring and worthy of emulation. Dr. Nze U. Nze hails from Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. He graduated with First Class Honours in Mass Communication in his first degree, used the ₦1 million postgraduate scholarship to commence his Master’s programme, and immediately progressed to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), which he completed commendably.
Today, Dr. Nze serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Tansian University, Umunya. He is also a member of the institution’s Governing Council, where he contributes to academic growth and policy direction.
During the visit, Mass Communication students formally presented an edition of their campus magazine, TANSIAN TIMES, to Mr. Obi. The award-winning scholar, Dr. Nze, is the founder and publisher of the magazine.
The academic community of Tansian University, alongside observers across the education sector, has commended Mr. Peter Obi for his consistency in supporting quality education. It will be recalled that in 2022, Governor Willie Obiano honoured Dr. Nze with the Anambra State Prestigious Education Award for becoming the first Anambra indigene to win First Prize in the Nigeria National Award for Creative Writing in Indigenous Language, a historic achievement.
Notably, Mr. Peter Obi had earlier donated ₦10 million to the Department of Nursing Sciences in March 2025. With his latest contribution, his total support to the department within eight months now stands at ₦20 million, dedicated to improving facilities for training competent nurses.
