A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daboikiabo Warmate, has reaffirmed that the party’s presidential ticket has been zoned to the southern region, stressing that credible options are already emerging from that zone. His remarks were made during an interview on Trust TV.
Warmate noted that zoning remains a key principle within the PDP, aimed at ensuring balance and inclusivity in Nigeria’s political structure. According to him, the party is committed to maintaining this arrangement as it prepares for future elections.
“Number one, the party has zoned it to the south, and number two is that we have a very credible candidate from the south. We have a lot of them, as I said, I’m from the south,” he said.
He further explained that, at the moment, the only prominent figure who has shown clear interest in the race is Seyi Makinde, although others may still emerge.
“Well, right now, we’ve not seen anyone that has picked interest yet or has demonstrated interest outside the Oyo State governor, and right now, we’re interested in how to achieve peace and a successful convention,” he added.
Warmate emphasized that the party’s immediate focus is on unity and a smooth convention process, noting that internal cohesion will be critical to strengthening the PDP’s chances in upcoming political contests.
