Stripe-owned Nigerian fintech company, Paystack, has suspended its Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi following viral allegations of sexual misconduct and the resurfacing of decade-old social media posts.
In separate reports monitored by Naijaonpoint, Paystack confirmed that Olubi has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a formal internal investigation.
“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation,” the company said in a statement shared with tech media.
The company added that it would not provide further public commentary until the investigation is concluded, citing the need to protect the integrity of the process and those involved.
Allegations Triggered by Old Social Media Posts
The suspension follows renewed public scrutiny of a series of old tweets attributed to Olubi, reportedly posted between 2009 and 2013, which resurfaced and trended on X (formerly Twitter) from November 12, 2025.
Reports indicate that the posts contained sexually explicit and inappropriate comments, some referencing colleagues and minors, leading to widespread backlash and calls for accountability within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem.
Olubi has not publicly responded to the allegations as at the time of filing this report, and his X account has been deactivated.
Internal Investigation and Governance Signal
According to multiple reports, Paystack has put in place what it described as a “fair, transparent, and structured review process” guided by its internal policies and values, as it moves to investigate the matter.
The development underscores growing scrutiny of executive conduct, workplace culture and governance standards in Africa’s fast-growing fintech sector, particularly for high-profile companies that have attracted significant international capital and visibility.
Paystack, founded in 2015 by Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi and acquired by Stripe in 2020, is one of Africa’s most visible payment infrastructure providers, processing payments for thousands of businesses across the continent.
Next Steps
Paystack has not announced any interim leadership changes relating to the CTO role beyond confirming the suspension and investigation.
The outcome of the probe is expected to be closely watched by investors, regulators, employees and ecosystem stakeholders, given the reputational implications for one of Nigeria’s most prominent fintech success stories.
