A resident has recounted an incident involving a young boy whose parents reportedly defended him after he was accused of stealing biscuits from a provision shop, only for video evidence to reveal what happened.
According to the narrator, the incident occurred in their neighbourhood several years ago when the boy entered a provision shop near his home while the shop owner had briefly stepped away to use the restroom.
The boy took biscuits worth ₦50 without paying, unaware that a woman opposite the shop was recording the incident on her phone.
Mother slaps woman who accused son of stealing
When the shop owner returned, the woman reportedly informed her about what she had witnessed. The shop owner subsequently approached the boy’s parents to complain about the alleged theft.
Rather than immediately questioning their son, however, the parents reportedly defended him. When the woman who witnessed the incident insisted that she had seen the boy take the biscuits, his mother accused her of lying and slapped her.
The situation took an unexpected turn when the woman brought out her phone and showed the parents the recording.
According to the narrator, “That was when the parents’ bodies went cold like ice water.”
The shop owner reportedly collected ₦1,000 from the parents over the incident before leaving.
Incident sparks lesson about parenting and consequences
Reflecting on the encounter, the narrator argued that the incident could have been an opportunity for the child to learn about accountability.
The narrator stated, “The saddest part is that the boy could have learned a simple lesson that day, but his parents almost taught him that his actions didn’t matter as long as they could defend him.”
