According to a report by Punch News, on Saturday, March 07, 2026,Kashim Shettima, Vice President of Nigeria, has said the Federal Government will confront insurgency in the North-East with decisive action following renewed attacks in Borno State.
The development follows recent incidents that led to casualties among security personnel and civilians, including abductions in Ngoshe and coordinated assaults on military positions.
Shettima also confirmed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been briefed and directed a swift mobilisation of the country’s security architecture.
The Vice President made the position of the Federal Government known in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The statement addressed the recent escalation of violence in parts of the North-East and outlined the government’s response aimed at restoring stability and protecting communities affected by insurgent activities.
According to the statement, the government will not allow the attacks to weaken national resolve or disrupt ongoing security operations in the region.
Authorities are increasing efforts to strengthen operational capacity while coordinating responses among security agencies deployed across vulnerable areas in the North-East.
Shettima explained that the administration remains committed to protecting lives and maintaining national unity despite the challenges posed by insurgent groups.
He stated that the country must remain united in the face of threats to public safety and security while efforts to dismantle violent networks continue across affected states.
He said, “We remain one nation, tied to a common destiny. The sanctity of human life is non-negotiable. This madness will be brought to an end with the decisive and overwhelming force of the Nigerian State.”
The Vice President also disclosed that additional tactical assets are being deployed to strengthen ongoing operations in response to the latest attacks.
Intelligence-driven reinforcements are being sent to communities and military formations considered vulnerable as part of measures designed to prevent further incidents and stabilise the region.
He noted that the recent incidents serve as a reminder that security efforts in the North-East remain a priority for the Federal Government.
The administration is continuing coordination among military and intelligence units to ensure rapid response capabilities and improved surveillance across strategic locations where threats have been reported.
Shettima added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security authorities to carry out a full mobilisation of national security resources to address the situation.
