Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to stop him from entering Osun State as residents head to the polls to elect their governor.
Davido raised the alarm in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, hours before voting is scheduled to begin across the state.
The singer made the allegation in a post on his verified X account, where he said he had received information about an alleged attempt to prevent him from accessing Osun.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
His claim comes against the backdrop of heightened security across Osun State for the governorship election.
Security agencies have introduced special measures aimed at preventing violence, disruption and other activities that could affect the conduct of the poll.
The Nigeria Police Force had announced a restriction on movement across the state as part of its election security plan.
The restriction took effect from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, and is expected to remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
The police also warned against the involvement of non-state actors in the electoral process.
The movement restriction means residents, politicians and other persons seeking to travel within or into the state may face checks at various points during the election period.
It was against this background that the allegation by Davido generated reactions online.
The singer is not a detached observer in the Osun election. He is the nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office.
Davido has openly supported his uncle’s political ambition and has been involved in activities connected to the governor’s re-election campaign.
Governor Adeleke is contesting the election on the platform of the Accord Party. He is facing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and candidates of other political parties.
The contest has attracted considerable attention because of the political history surrounding Adeleke’s administration and the efforts by the opposition to take control of the state.
Davido’s involvement has also made him one of the most prominent celebrity associated with the governor’s campaign.
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad reacted to the singer’s post and dismissed the complaint as unnecessary.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad wrote.
Ahmad, however, argues that the restriction announced by security agencies applies generally and should not be interpreted as an action specifically directed at the singer.
However, There was no immediate public statement from the military confirming Davido’s allegation that soldiers had been instructed to stop him from entering the state.
