Osun governorship race: APC announces campaign structure, key committee members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified preparations for the upcoming Osun State governorship election with the inauguration of a high-powered National Campaign Council and several specialised sub-committees tasked with steering the party’s campaign ahead of the August 15, 2026 poll.

The party announced the development in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, describing the move as part of efforts to coordinate a robust nationwide campaign structure aimed at securing victory in the election.

Leading the National Campaign Council is the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma.

He will be supported by a team of senior party leaders serving as co-chairmen, including Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Also appointed into the campaign leadership is President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who will serve as Deputy Chairman of the council, while Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin has been named Secretary.

According to the APC, the council brings together some of the party’s most influential figures, including governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), ministers, principal officers of the National Assembly, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other key stakeholders drawn from across the country.

The party said the broad-based composition of the council reflects its determination to mount a coordinated and effective campaign capable of delivering victory at the polls.

To strengthen campaign coordination, the APC also constituted several specialised sub-committees that will oversee different aspects of the electioneering process.

The committees will handle critical responsibilities such as election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement, logistics and campaign operations, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women’s mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, and secretariat administration.

The party expressed confidence that the committees would ensure efficient planning and seamless execution of campaign activities throughout the election period.

Meanwhile, the APC disclosed that the official inauguration of both the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja, with the ceremony scheduled to commence at 12:00 noon.
