…says initiative shows impact of LG autonomy
The APC Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Osun State Chapter, on Saturday distributed additional security patrol vehicles to security agencies across the state, describing the gesture as a demonstration of its commitment to public safety and the effectiveness of local government autonomy.
The event, held at the headquarters of the state police command in Osogbo, followed an earlier unveiling of patrol vehicles a few weeks ago.
According to the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Abiodun Idowu, the latest distribution completes the council’s intervention aimed at strengthening law and order ahead of the August 15 governorship election and future polls.

He said, “This is indeed, a promise made, a promise kept”.
Hon. Idowu stressed that security remains the foundation for any meaningful development saying, without peace and stability, no society can thrive or achieve its developmental goals, hence the decision by local councils to support security formations in the state.
He added that local governments, being the closest tier of government to the people, understand the peculiar security challenges within communities.
The ALGON chairman linked the intervention to the growing autonomy of local governments arguing that, when councils are empowered to manage resources and set priorities, the impact is immediate.
“Autonomy enables us to act without undue delays, to design solutions that are tailored to our local realities, and to take responsibility for the security and welfare of our communities,” he stated.
Hon. Idowu commended their courage and resilience, saying today’s gesture was meant as encouragement and support for their service
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, said the presentation of the vehicles reflects a collective commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture and improving operational efficiency.
He noted that the support would enhance mobility, response time, patrol coverage, intelligence-led operations, and inter-agency collaboration.
The police boss however on behalf of the officers and men of the Osun Police Command, expressed appreciation to Osun ALGON for the strategic intervention.
He assured residents that the vehicles would be deployed judiciously, maintained properly, and used strictly for security purposes to safeguard lives and property across the state.
CP Gotan also lauded the dedication and professionalism of all security agencies present, noting that strength lies in unity of purpose and coordinated action.
Present at the event were, the DIG, the AIG, heads of security agencies, members of ALGON, and other stakeholders.
