Oshiomhole Slams Obaseki, Praises Okpebholo’s Achievements

Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticised former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, asserting that he failed the people of the state during his tenure.

Oshiomhole made the remarks on Sunday in Benin, responding to claims by the People Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first year in office was unproductive.

He argued that Okpebholo inherited an “abandoned state,” highlighting that Obaseki frequently held groundbreaking ceremonies for projects that produced little tangible results.

Describing the PDP as a “dead party,” Oshiomhole urged journalists to rely on verifiable facts rather than statements lacking credibility.

The former governor praised Okpebholo’s first-year achievements, including the ongoing Ramat Park flyover, intended to ease traffic congestion, stressing the economic benefits of reduced travel time and fuel savings.

He further noted that numerous road projects across Edo State reflect the administration’s commitment to genuine development, dismissing claims of political propaganda.

On education, Oshiomhole criticised the previous administration for neglecting schools, leaving them understaffed and dilapidated. He said Governor Okpebholo has since rehabilitated schools, restored conducive learning environments, and recruited 5,000 teachers.

He also applauded increased funding for higher education, revealing that Ambrose Alli University now receives N500 million monthly (up from N41 million), while Edo University, Iyamho receives N250 million, addressing longstanding academic disruptions and supporting institutional growth
