The Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, has expressed deep shock, pain and disgust over the gruesome murder of a young medical science graduate of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Abu Tahir Momoh, in Auchi, Edo State.
In a statement released through his Chief of Staff, Hon. Victor Oshioke, the former Governor of Edo State said his attention was drawn to the senseless killing of the promising young man by suspected kidnappers. Tahir Momoh was abducted alongside his elder brother, Dr. Abu Babatunde, a medical doctor with the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, who is reportedly still being held captive.
Oshiomhole described the incident as a tragic and painful irony, noting that a young man who devoted years of his life to studying medicine in order to save lives was brutally cut down by heartless criminals who place no value on human life. He questioned the rationale behind murdering Tahir Momoh describing the act as barbaric and unjustifiable.
According to the Senator, no one can fully comprehend the depth of pain being experienced right now by the victim’s family, who invested enormous hope, time and financial resources in training their son to become a medical doctor, only for his life and dreams to be extinguished in such a horrific manner just as he was about to begin his career.
Oshiomhole praised the state government for its relentless investments in securing our people and communities while calling on security agencies to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the immediate rescue of Dr. Abu Babatunde from captivity and his safe reunion with his family. He stressed that the perpetrators of what he described as a “heinous act of man’s inhumanity to man” must be tracked down and brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
He promised to continue his advocacy for the enactment of stricter penalties for kidnappers and that they are made to face the consequences of their criminality once convicted.
The Senator expressed his heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Auchi Community, praying that Allah, who has absolute control over life and death, grants them strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. He also prayed that the soul of the departed finds eternal peace in Aljannah Firdaus.
