Rivers State governor, Sir Sim Fubara, has opened up, declaring that he accepted the State of Emergency, declared in the state six months ago, as a personal sacrifice in the interest of peace.
The six-month State of Emergency, declared by President Bola Tinubu, last March, in the heat of the crisis between loyalists of the governor and his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, was lifted by the president yesterday.
Governor Fubara was suspended from office, while Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (rtd) was appointed the sole administrator during the six-month State of Emergency rule in the state.
Fubara, in a statewide broadcast on Friday when he resumes office, acknowledged that the six months the State of Emergency lasted was challenging for Rivers State and its people.

He said he resisted pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the declaration of a state of emergency, guided by his conviction that no sacrifice was too great to secure peace, stability, and progress of Rivers State.
Fubara added that, following a peace process brokered by President Tinubu, he and Wike have buried the hatchet and embraced peace and reconciliation in the best interest of the state.
Fubara expressed belief that peace has returned to the state, adding that the onus rests on the executive, legislative arms of government, political leaders and stakeholders to put aside their differences and work for the common good of the state and the people.
