One feared dead as suspected scavengers, traders clash in Ibadan

One person has been feared dead while several others suffered varying degrees of injuries in a clash between the traders and suspected scavengers in the Ojoo area of Akinyele Local Government.

The clash, as reliably informed, broke out during a heated argument between the affected traders and the scavengers, popularly known as Bowler boys.

It was alleged that an unidentified woman was stabbed during the clash while trying to intervene and restore peace. She was said to have died from the injuries she sustained.

However, the circumstances surrounding her death had yet to be officially confirmed by security authorities as of the time of filing this report.

A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the activities of suspected scavengers in the Ojoo area had become a growing concern for traders and residents, alleging that repeated disputes and incidents of unruly behaviour had heightened tension in the community.

Following the incident, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, were deployed to the area to restore normalcy and prevent further violence or possible reprisal attacks.

The commercial and other related activities were temporarily put on hold during the period that the clashes lasted.

Also, it was gathered that the state deputy governor, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, is on his way to the scene of the incident to bring the situation under control.

The Police authorities in the state are yet to make an official statement on the incident as at press time.
