One Appointment Tinubu Got Right In This Govt Is Choice Of Umahi As Work Minister- Chuks Emeka

Energy expert Chucks Emeka has said one of the few appointments President Bola Ahmed Tinubu got right in his administration was the choice of David Umahi as Minister of Works.

Speaking on the Sunday edition of ThisDay Live on Arise News, anchored by Reuben Abati, Emeka described Umahi as one of the few “square pegs in square holes” in the current government.

According to him, the former governor of Ebonyi State has not disappointed since assuming office at the Federal Ministry of Works, noting that his background as a trained civil engineer makes him well suited for the role.

“One appointment Tinubu got right in this government is the choice of Umahi as Works Minister,” Emeka said, adding that the minister’s professional training has helped him manage the responsibilities of the ministry effectively.

However, the energy expert contrasted Umahi’s appointment with that of Adebayo Adelabu as Minister of Power. Emeka noted that Adelabu, who is a trained accountant and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, does not have a professional background in the power sector.

He argued that placing non-professionals in critical technical ministries has contributed to persistent challenges in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Emeka said the development partly explains the ongoing crisis in the country’s energy sector, stressing that technical ministries should be headed by professionals with relevant expertise.

The analyst urged the federal government to prioritize competence and professional experience when appointing individuals to manage key sectors of the economy, particularly those requiring specialized knowledge.See_More…
