The Ondo State Government has sanctioned two secondary school principals for allegedly collecting unauthorized fees and items from students in public schools.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, confirmed the action in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Akure.
Ajibefun said the principals were found to have charged students above government-approved levies and demanded unapproved items. He declined to disclose their names or schools.
The commissioner noted that some parents lodged formal complaints with the ministry, prompting an investigation. The accused principals were subsequently summoned and reportedly admitted to the allegations.
“We have sanctioned two principals in the last few days. The two principals were collecting illegal money from students. Even before the resumption of the new term, they had started collecting money,” Ajibefun said.
He explained that both officials have been issued queries, with further disciplinary measures to follow.
Ajibefun warned that the government would not tolerate such practices, stressing that the administration is determined to enforce accountability and transparency in the education sector.
“This era is different. We want to let them know we are serious about what we are saying,” he added.
