The Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Albert Akpomudje (SAN), Eyavwien-Alaka I, has declared a total ban on cult-related activities and the abuse of illicit drugs across the kingdom, directing all individuals involved in cult groups to immediately renounce their membership or face sanctions.
The decision was reached at an enlarged meeting of leaders from all communities in the kingdom convened by the monarch as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security, preserve peace and promote sustainable development across the area.
Addressing the gathering, the Ohworode expressed concern over the growing menace of cultism and drug abuse, describing them as major threats to the safety of residents, particularly young people. He said the activities of cult groups and the increasing abuse of hard drugs have contributed to rising cases of crime, violence and social unrest in many communities within the kingdom.
“The kingdom will no longer tolerate any activity capable of undermining the peace, unity and development of Olomu Kingdom,” the monarch declared, stressing that every individual involved in cultism must immediately withdraw from such groups and embrace lawful and productive ventures.
He said the traditional institution would work closely with security agencies and relevant government authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban, warning that anyone found violating the directive would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The monarch also appealed to parents, guardians, community leaders, youth organisations and other stakeholders to support the campaign by guiding young people away from criminal activities and substance abuse. He said the fight against cultism and drugs requires collective responsibility from all members of the society.
Akpomudje further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to security agencies, assuring them that information provided would assist efforts to rid the kingdom of criminal elements.
He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining law and order throughout Olomu Kingdom, expressing optimism that the renewed campaign against cultism and drug abuse would restore lasting peace, improve public safety and create a more conducive environment for economic growth and community development.
The renewed crackdown comes amid increasing concern over the activities of cult groups in parts of Delta State, where security agencies and traditional institutions have continued to intensify efforts to tackle violent crimes, protect lives and safeguard communities.
