In a recent interview on Channels Television, prominent actor and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo sharply criticized Nafiu Gombe’s declared intention to challenge the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in court.
Okonkwo described the move as both surprising and unreasonable, questioning its legal and moral foundation given Gombe’s prior resignation from the party.
Speaking on the program, Okonkwo expressed disbelief at Gombe’s actions, highlighting the apparent contradiction of an individual who formally left a political party seeking judicial intervention against its internal leadership.
According to him, such a step undermines the principles of party loyalty and the proper observance of due process.
“In his words,” Okonkwo remarked, “Let me just say that it is very ridiculous for a man called Nafiu Gombe to say he’s going to court to challenge the leadership of the ADC.”
He emphasized that the move raises serious questions about consistency and intent, suggesting that it appears politically opportunistic rather than principled.
Okonkwo provided a detailed timeline to support his argument, pointing out that Gombe had officially severed ties with the ADC months prior to announcing his legal challenge.
“Nafiu Gombe on the 17th May 2025, by a letter dated by him on that date, resigned from the ADC. And he signed that letter on the 18th of May, 2025. The letter took effect on the 26th of May, 2025,” Okonkwo explained. He argued that the sequence of events clearly demonstrates that Gombe voluntarily exited the party, making any subsequent legal claims difficult to substantiate.
According to Okonkwo, the situation underscores broader concerns about respect for internal party processes and the importance of consistency in political conduct.
He warned that attempts to challenge a party’s leadership after formally resigning could set a troubling precedent, potentially encouraging legal disputes that complicate organizational governance.
Political observers note that Gombe’s decision to seek judicial intervention has sparked debate across political and social media platforms, with many questioning the motivations behind challenging a party from which one has already officially disengaged.
Analysts suggest that Okonkwo’s comments reflect a broader concern among political stakeholders about maintaining integrity, loyalty, and clarity in party politics, especially as the nation approaches key election cycles.
By highlighting the timing of Gombe’s resignation and the subsequent announcement of his legal intentions, Okonkwo sought to reinforce the principle that political and legal challenges should align with established rules and ethical standards.
