Seven officials of the Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Task Force, including four police officers and three Department of Road Traffic Services officials, were injured after they were attacked by suspected commercial motorcyclists and scavengers in Godab Estate, Life Camp, Abuja.
The officials were reportedly ambushed on Thursday while returning from a routine enforcement operation in the area. The attackers allegedly used machetes and other dangerous weapons during the assault.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the task force official, Usman Suleiman, said the attackers targeted the team after its operation.
He said the ambush involved scavengers and okada riders who allegedly descended on the officials with dangerous weapons.
“An ambush made up of scavengers and okada riders attacked with machetes and other dangerous objects,” Suleiman said.
According to him, four police officers and three DRTS officials sustained injuries during the attack.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of enforcement personnel carrying out operations in the nation’s capital.
Suleiman said the officials were returning from their normal operations when the attackers struck.
The injured officers were taken for medical attention following the attack.
