Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has approved the career advancement of graduate primary school teachers (Tutor Cadre) from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, on Thursday.
According to Abiodun, this decision is a strategic effort to eliminate career stagnation at the peak of the teaching cadre and significantly boost staff morale across the state’s primary education system.

Beyond the grade level advancement, the governor has also approved a consolidated salary structure for the position of head-teacher general.
This policy is designed to upgrade their professional status, ensuring that school leadership is both properly compensated and motivated to deliver high-quality administrative oversight.
He emphasised that these reforms are the result of a comprehensive review of existing career progression frameworks.
The ultimate goal, he noted, is to improve learning outcomes for pupils by ensuring that their instructors are well-supported and motivated.
The Head of Service linked this development to the ISEYA pillar of the Abiodun administration, which stands for infrastructure, social welfare and wellbeing, education, youth empowerment and agriculture.
By implementing these upgrades, the administration aims to reaffirm Ogun State’s reputation as the premier education hub of Nigeria.
“This move reinforces the state’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and supporting its workforce,” Abiodun stated.
