Ogun gateway airport kicks up service with first flight to Abuja

Ogun State has officially joined the aviation map as its Gateway International Airport began commercial operations today, October 7, 2025. The inaugural flight, operated by ValueJet Airlines, departed for Abuja, marking a major milestone for the state’s infrastructure and air travel.

The first commercial flight signals that the airport is ready to serve passengers. ValueJet Airlines is the first carrier to operate scheduled flights from the new airport. Flights are expected to run twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday, connecting Ogun State directly to Abuja.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) granted the Gateway International Airport an Aerodrome Operational Permit in August, clearing the way for commercial operations.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed pride in the airport’s completion, highlighting its potential to boost the state’s economy and tourism sector. A prominent APC leader also praised the project, calling it a clear sign of Ogun State’s commitment to infrastructural development.

The launch of commercial flights at Ogun Gateway Airport is expected to improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and give residents easier access to air travel. The state government plans to expand flight destinations and services in the near future.
