The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will never become Nigeria’s president.
Akiolu disclosed that destiny does not favour Atiku despite his long-standing political ambitions since 1992.
The monarch made the statement while speaking to journalists at his Iga Iduganran Palace during celebrations marking his 22 years on the throne.
He contrasted Atiku’s repeated presidential bids with the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as divinely ordained.
“The future belongs to God. But let me say it plainly: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will never be President of Nigeria,” the monarch said.
He praised Tinubu as a compassionate and visionary leader, adding that Tinubu personally presented his certificate of return to the Oba after his victory.
“Lagosians and Nigerians should support him to fulfil God’s purpose for the country,” Akiolu urged.
Oba Akiolu’s comments reinforce the narrative that Tinubu’s presidency is supported by influential traditional figures, while Atiku’s long pursuit of the presidency continues to face skepticism from some quarters.
