Nwabufo Nwankwo, Four Others Expelled from NYCN Anambra with Immediate Effect

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, has announced the expulsion of five members, including Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, following what it described as findings of misconduct and activities inconsistent with the council’s constitution, values, and ethical standards.

The decision, which takes immediate effect, was contained in an official notice issued by the Executive Committee of the council and signed by the Acting Chairman of NYCN Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Okoye Ugochukwu Godwin.

According to the statement dated June 19, 2026, the decision followed what the council described as a painstaking investigation into several complaints and reports received against the affected individuals.

Those expelled from the council are Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, Comrade Frank Maduka, Comrade Emeka Ementa, Comrade Ernest Nnolim, and Comrade Nkem Amene.

The Executive Committee stated that after reviewing the findings of the investigation and deliberating extensively on the issues raised, members unanimously resolved to expel the affected individuals from the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.

The council alleged that the investigation uncovered the involvement of the expelled members in the unauthorised solicitation of funds from youths across Anambra State. It further alleged that the individuals made promises of appointments and positions within the council outside the constitutional framework and established procedures guiding the emergence of officials and members of the organisation.

According to the statement, such actions undermine the credibility of the council and violate the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness upon which the organisation was founded.

“The decision was reached based on findings of conduct deemed inconsistent with the Constitution, values, objectives, and ethical standards of the National Youth Council of Nigeria,” the statement read.

The council maintained that the actions of the affected individuals constituted a gross abuse of the trust reposed in members of the organisation and were capable of bringing the NYCN into disrepute.

As a result, the Executive Committee declared that the expelled persons have ceased to enjoy any rights, privileges, recognition, or benefits associated with membership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Anambra State.

The statement also expressed particular concern over the alleged involvement of Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, who currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Anambra State.

The council noted that public office holders are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and public service, adding that any conduct capable of eroding public confidence in institutions should be discouraged.

“The Executive Committee therefore expresses serious concern over such conduct and its implications for public confidence,” the statement added.

The council further warned members of the public, government agencies, development partners, institutions, and other stakeholders against dealing with the expelled individuals on behalf of the organisation.

According to the notice, the affected persons no longer possess any authority to represent, speak for, negotiate, transact business, or act in any capacity on behalf of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.

The NYCN stressed that any undertaking, representation, appointment, financial transaction, promise, commitment, or agreement entered into by the expelled individuals in the name of the council should be regarded as null, void, and unauthorised.

The council said the directive became necessary to protect unsuspecting members of the public and preserve the integrity of the organisation.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and constitutional order, the Anambra chapter of the NYCN stated that it would continue to uphold the principles of transparency, youth empowerment, credible leadership, and due process in all its activities.

Speaking on the development, Acting Chairman of the council, Comrade Okoye Ugochukwu Godwin, said the Executive Committee would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the credibility and reputation of the organisation.

He noted that the decision was taken in the overall interest of the council and the youth constituency it represents, adding that the NYCN remains committed to promoting responsible leadership and safeguarding the trust placed in it by young people across Anambra State.

The expulsion, according to the council, takes immediate effect. Stakeholders and members of the public have been advised to take note of the development and conduct all future engagements only with duly recognised representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter.
