NSITF Seeks Kwara Partnership on Compensation Scheme

The Ilorin Branch of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Head of Service (HOS) to explore collaboration on the implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).

Deputy Head of Compliance, NSITF Ilorin Branch, Mr. Ibrahim Adam, who led the delegation, presented the official gazette on ECS to the Acting HOS, Dr. Olufunke Shittu, while highlighting the scheme’s benefits, registration procedures, and its role in protecting workers against occupational risks. He explained that compensation applies strictly to employees in active service, while pensions cover post-service benefits.

Dr. Shittu, in her response, appreciated the enlightenment and sought clarifications on employee entitlements after retirement, access to compensation for workplace injuries or accidents, and the distinction between the roles of NSITF and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). She noted that her office is finalizing a partnership with the NHIS before formal engagement with NSITF.

Addressing the concerns, Head of Compliance, Mr. Ayodeji Kolawole, explained that NHIS focuses on healthcare services, while ECS provides compensation for work-related accidents, occupational diseases, disabilities, and deaths. He emphasized the importance of the scheme to civil servants in Kwara and Nigerian employees at large.
